Matariki Kites

Matariki is the time when you fly kites high up in the sky and celebrate Maori New Year. You can eat kai with your family and make your own kite! You can design a Maori one by using Maori patterns on it. You can even put glitter on your kite to make it beautiful.  Then you can fly your kite up in the sky with your friends or cousins. I love Matariki!

There are 9 stars for Matariki. It is a time to come together and have a feast. People like to fly kites and they like to celebrate. Some people think there are 9 stars and some people think there are 7 stars but we learned that there are 9 stars.

Matariki is a creative story about the Maori New Year.  People make  colourful kites to celebrate it. Some people get kites from the shop or create by themselves. Some kites are bright, some are big too. They fly kites on windy days. Everyone comes to the Kites day! Some kites have patterns. It is fun to make and fly kites!
