Well done Dijonay!
Congratulations to all GTS students who participated in the ICAS testing for 2017.
ICAS offers students an opportunity to assess their knowledge in an international exam. An initiative of Education Assessment of the University of New South Wales, the exams are designed for every year level and are closely aligned to school learning.
Our very special congratulations to Dijonay, who participated in the ICAS Spelling Test and also received the Principal's Award.
Well done Dijonay for your excellent effort!

The impossible bridges
Bridges come in many shapes and sizes. Our class decided to make our own models of some kinds of bridges. It was fun!

Foam Printing
We made our landscapes by simply drawing deep lines into the foam.
Then we used ink to transfer our images onto paper. 😀

Our Trip to Devonport
Yesterday, the juniors had a fantastic trip to Devonport as a part of our Term 3 Inquiry 'Changing Landscapes'.
We walked to the top of Mt.Victoria and enjoyed the most beautiful views of Auckland city and the Waitemata Harbour. We looked at some major landforms that we have in our area.
We had lots of fun!

Measuring the Volume of Solids
We learnt how to measure and compare volumes of various containers using non-standard volume units. We measured our containers using the building, stacking and place value blocks.
At the end of our activity, we agreed that we needed a standard unit of volume to get the same results. We noticed that it became difficult to communicate and compare results with others that used different units.
We had to use the same size blocks to get the same results!
Without standard units of measurement, people would have a huge problem understanding what other people were saying and measuring. 😀

Celebrating Matariki
Matariki is a special time of year for the tangata whenua/ people of Aotearoa/New Zealand with the celebration of Matariki and te Tau Hou o te Māori, the Māori New year.
We created our night sky with the glowing Matariki stars. We know that some Maori tribes celebrated Matariki by flying kites. We made our own kites and went kite flying.
