Samoan Umu! Right here at GTS! Absolutely Delicious and Fantastic Cultural Experience!

Today we had a fantastic authentic opportunity to experience a traditional Samoan Umu cooking and gathering ceremony!

What a day we had today! Click HERE to join us on the day!

We appreciate all the cultures at GTS, and today we were lucky to experience another great example of how many people from different cultural backgrounds came together to share food, positive thoughts and kind words!

All GTS students, teachers, whanau and guests got together to spread the love and respect by helping and supporting each other after the long lockdown time!

It was a very special day at GTS!

Room 5's Post-Lockdown Prizegiving. We are the champions!

During the lockdown, we kept working and learning! We proved that we all are extremely keen, enthusiastic and smart learners who achieved a lot!

The lockdown couldn't stop us from learning about many interesting Anzac facts. We continued to learn and practise place value, number knowledge, alliterations, rhyming, spelling, smart blogging, positive commenting and heaps more!

Today, it is our day to celebrate our learning success!!!

We are BACK after the Covid-19 Lockdown!!! We Love Room 5 and GTS!

Finally, after the long lockdown period, we got a chance to return to our wonderful school! We LOVE GTS!

We missed our friends and teachers, we missed our Learn-Create-Share projects in Room 5. So, we decided to share our experiences and also create new outside games to play TOGETHER!

We Love Playing Kahoot to have fun and learn at the same time!

The students L-O-V-E when we play Kahoot - what a great way to engage and make everyone participate!

Playing Kahoot motivates us to read fluently as we have turns reading the quiz questions and also we want to answer the questions faster than the others to get more points!

Playing Kahoots, we learnt some new words and practised our Maths, Reading, Writing. We also discovered some of the Anzac facts and, thanks to our exciting Kahoot quizzes, we will remember these facts for long!

Statistical Investigations

In mathematics this week we have been doing a statistics study on our favourites.

First, we brainstormed things that the students have a favourite of and decided to collect data about our favourite animals. We then drew various animals and had to sort them into categories. After that, the students attached their drawings to the class chart.

We had fun looking at our favourite animals and discussing the information we presented on our pictogram. Most of us liked SNAKES!!!

We also looked at our lavalava and sorted them by colours.

I like your lavalava block graph!

Well done!

Raw Fish is The Best

Kia ora,

Room 5 is proud to present our animated story.

One day, Bethany brought a handful of little toy animals. It sparked our imagination...

To create this movie we had to learn about stop motion animation, practise our story writing
and problem-solving skills. We explored animal habitats and adaptations, geography and climates. We worked on our expressive reading!

Please sit back and enjoy our film: Raw Fish is the Best!

Jock. One day we discovered a very strange person in our room. Here is our story...

At the beginning of Term 3, we realized that the Middles and Seniors started to film their movies for the Manaiakalani Film Festival.  We really wanted to make our own movie but we didn’t have any ideas.

We kept thinking and thinking about our movie until... one day we discovered a very strange person in our room.

Here is our story...

GTS Vision and Values: ACE and FIRE

We put our heads together to think about F.I.R.E and A.C.E. :)
We had lots of fun and lots of thinking!

Behind the scenes.... or how we worked together to understand F.I.R.E. and A.C.E. better....and what do they mean to us. We also linked our school vision and values to our Class Treaty.

It is OK to make mistakes because we LEARN from them!

Mistakes are powerful!

Please follow a link shared below to watch a video about our brain power. Remember that each of us is unique! Our mistakes help us get smarter!! Be confident to take a risk because you will definitely learn from it!

Our Class Treaty

Students have been working very thoughtfully to generate valuable ideas about how they want to live and learn in Room 5. After a number of very interesting and meaningful discussions in small groups, we put our ideas and expectations together, and everyone of us agreed to the Treaty.

It is a living document, just like the Treaty of Waitangi!

In Room 5, all students know what to expect. They also enjoy their learning better because they feel comfortable and confident in their learning environment.😃
