"Water Skills for Life" Lesson with Moe from Swimming New Zealand

Today we had a great opportunity to learn some water skills for life with Moe - a WSFL educator.

We had a lot of fun and learnt some essential water skills to properly behave in the water and how to save people if they're in trouble:

  • If you see someone in the water in trouble, don’t go into the water yourself but look for an adult to help.
  • If you ring 111, explain what’s happened and where the problem is.
  • You can help people float by throwing them anything that floats - like life jackets, boards, plastic milk bottles, buckets etc.
  • Ropes can help pull people out of the water. Coil the rope, then throw it underarm, to the person in the water. Make sure you hold onto one end.
  • When using a life jacket, put the jacket on and zip it up. Keep the life jacket on until you get out of the water.
Pool safety:
  • Hop into the pool safely.
  • Stay in the shallows where you feel safe.
  • Respect personal space.
Thank you, Mr Victor, for your support today!
